Arrow Star’s Former Rival Joining The Show For Season 5

Stephen Amell, star of the CW’s Arrow, has teased some great new villains appearing in the show’s upcoming fifth season. He has said in the past that there will be some returning characters and some new ones that will help to ground the show and step away from some of the mystical themes that it has showcased recently. Today though, Amell went a step further and told us who would be playing one of those villains.

When sitting down to talk with fans at the Heroes and Villains Fan Fest in New Jersey, Amell surprised everyone when he started his panel out with a bang.

“Hey before we get going, we have an announcement,” Amell said, exciting the crowd. “We have a new guest star on Arrow this year... Mr. Cody Rhodes.”

Rhodes, formerly of the WWE, has tangled with Amell before. His most recent character, Stardust, developed quite a rivalry with Amell, that culminated in the two meeting in the ring at WWE’s Summerslam last year. Now though, Rhodes will step out of the ring and into Star City to tangle with the Green Arrow. Amell continued to express his excitement for the addition to the show’s cast.

“I am so fired up for this guy. He and I haven’t really had much of a chance to talk about it but we’ve been friends for a little over a year now,” Amell said. “I know that Cody has really wanted to get into the acting business and he went to L.A. and he went for a part and his deal closed yesterday and the dude’s going to be on Arrow. I’m so fired up.”

Obviously, he wasn’t the only one there that was excited about the addition. The crowd was very pleased to hear the news and of course Rhodes himself is looking forward to joining the Arrowverse.

“It was a long time between when I read and when I heard from them,” Rhodes said. “I was kind of getting worried, but I’m excited now.”

Of course, he was not able to give much away as to the nature of his role because he has only been given so much information himself.

“I got a sheet of paper that was half blacked out,” Rhodes said. “So I don’t really know much.”

Rhodes has primarily played a somewhat villainous role throughout his WWE career. Stardust was actually played up as a comic book villain of sorts, creating solo segments with Joker-like monologues.

With that kind of experience, it stands to reason that he would be portraying a villain to Amell’s hero. In fact, the one bit of information that Rhodes could give away backed that theory up.

“I know that,” Rhodes said in regards to his obvious fit for the role of villain. “It’s definitely going to be on that side of things.”

Rhodes even took that a bit farther and gave us a bit of an idea of the relationship between his character and the Green Arrow.

“I think that I’m personally excited for the opportunity to do what we did in my world,” Rhodes said. “I think, and I can’t really say anything, but I think it’s ok to say that you can probably expect Stephen and I to get into a fight.”

The extent of his role has not yet been determined and it is now up to the Arrow fans to speculate as to which DC villain Rhodes may be portraying. One thing’s for sure though. He will definitely be reviving his rivalry with Amell.

Arrow’s fifth season is set to kick off in October, with Rhodes set to debut in the season’s third episode.
