COMIC-CON 2016: SHERLOCK SEASON 4 TEASER RELEASED

The trailer features Sherlock mulling over the return of a familiar foe, plus glimpses of Watson, Molly, Mycroft, Mrs. Hudson, and more, and warns that "everything they know will be tested. Everyone they know is under threat."

The panel featured star Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock), as well as Amanda Abbington who plays Mary, and executive producers Mark Gatiss, Sue Vertue, and Steven Moffat.

"It's really dark," Abbington said during the panel in reference to season four. "It's the darkest that Steven [Moffat] and Mark [Gatiss] have written. When we read them, all of us, when we read them we were kind of overwhelmed, I think."

"It's a genuine emotional roller coaster," Cumberbatch added. "And the learning curves are massive."

The new season of Sherlock will premiere in 2017. Previously, co-creator Steven Moffat hinted that it could be the show's final season.
