France sees drop in foreign tourists’ bookings following attack in Nice

Nice

France has witnessed a drop in air travel bookings after the Bastille Day attack in Nice in which 84 people were killed.
According to ForwardKeys, a travel analysis company, even before the July 14 attack, flight reservations to France were down by 16 per cent for the two months compared to the same period in 2015 due to the Paris attacks in November.
The Spanish company, which has access to databases of more than 200,000 online and physical travel agencies, further stated that Nice, and France on the whole, have been impacted by the attack with an immediate fall in the international visitor arrivals.

As an immediate reaction, international visitor arrivals in Nice dropped by 9.4 per cent as compared to the previous year. Across France, there was a drop in arrivals by 8.8 per cent.
It added that air travel bookings have fallen by a fifth for August and September. While the slump across France was 20 per cent, in Nice it was 19 per cent when compared to the same time period in 2015.
The downward trend had started after the November 13 attacks in Paris in which 130 people were killed. Even if the situation started to normalise, arrivals by regular flights between January and the first week of July were down 5.8 per cent compared to the same period in 2015.
The attack in Nice also resulted in a decline in the occupancy rate of five star hotels by 5 to 10 per cent in the city and on the Riviera until July 22.
